8TH GRADE WREATH SALES

The holidays are closer than you think, and the 8th graders are selling wreaths! You can purchase a wreath from any 8th grader, or in the office. The 18” finished wreath is adorned with either a red or burgundy bow, and the price is $12.50. Proceeds from the sale help support the class activities at the end of the school year.  Wreath Sales are through Nov. 29, and will be ready for pick up on Tuesday, December 1st or Wed. Dec. 2.  Mrs. Fisher will remain after school until 5:30 pm on those two days for wreath pick up. Students will deliver their wreaths to the purchaser unless other arrangements are made.

PTA NEWS

If you haven't already, make sure your Wildcats submit their Incognito Turkey entry by Tuesday, November 24th! We have had some great entries already, and we'd love to see how your kid(s) will disguise their turkey! Paper copies of the turkey can be left in our submission boxes at school, or a photo of their turkey can be posted on our Facebook contest post. We will be randomly drawing 3 winners for a fun prize!

Our next virtual meeting will be held on December 9th at 6 PM. We will be decked out for the holidays, so bust out your ugly sweater or wacky hat and join us!

HEALTHY HIGHLIGHTS

Our Healthy Highlight this week is a message from the Maine Department of Education regarding holiday travel:

As we see the escalating impact of COVID-19 across our state and the nation, we recognize that friends and families are looking for ways to connect and to maintain normal traditions in an abnormal time. As the holiday season approaches, it is critically important that our school communities continue to do everything we can in order to keep our schools safe, open, and able to provide in-person instruction. This may mean making the safe and difficult choice to limit holiday gathering and travel, as we know that both have additional risks for exposure and transmission of the virus. The United States Center for Disease Control has issued strong guidance to the American people to limit our interactions and travel this holiday season so that we can all gather safely in the future. Further details of the CDC’s recommendations can be found, here.  Based on the recommendations of the community health experts, we strongly encourage our staff and students to celebrate each holiday within your current household only and to limit any large gatherings.Any staff or students who travel to any state other than New Hampshire or Vermont (no restrictions for these two states only as of 11/16/20; subject to change), will be required to either: quarantine for 14 days upon return to Maine, or quarantine until receiving a negative test result. The test must be taken either: in the state you are visiting and no more than 72 hours prior to your return to Maine, or once you return to Maine. Any staff or students who have traveled to restricted states will not be permitted inside the school building until either the negative test result or 14 days has occurred. This is not dependent on the length of time spent within the restricted states, meaning that a day visit still requires any person to quarantine for 14 days or until a negative test result is confirmed. All members of the household who travel must test or quarantine if over 12 months old. Any person who is quarantining should stay home, and not have in-person contact with others unless there is an emergency. A non-traditional Thanksgiving can be hard on all of us, and the CDC has some suggestions on healthy alternatives and precautions to consider that can be found at https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/daily-life-coping/holidays/thanksgiving.html.  Please stay safe, and help us to keep our school community safe and able to provide for the students we serve.

LINES FROM THE LIBRARY

I'm excited to tell you about another new resource that the library is offering this year: PebbleGo and PebbleGo Next. It’s a great database tailored for K-5 students with lots of engaging content and features that support even our youngest students. I’m pleased that students will be able to work on their research, reporting and citing skills with PebbleGo. These past couple weeks, I have taught all students in K-5 to access and use PebbleGo. Have them show you where to find it in their Brightspace account!

                                           LOST & FOUND

Are you missing a jacket, hat, lunchbox, or a pair of shoes? Remind your students that they can find these items in the hallway outside of the Library! All remaining items will be donated to charity in December.

SNOW DAYS AND DELAYED STARTS

If during the winter weather roads are not safe, schools will have a delayed start, or the school building will be closed for the day. In addition to an automated phone call to each household, notice of this will be made on TV Channels 6, 8 and 13 beginning at 5:30am. School cancellations can also be heard over the following radio stations: WGAN 560 AM, WCLZ 98.9 FM, WPOR 101.9 FM, WJTO 730AM, WMGX 93.1 FM. Please remember that our schools are listed under RSU1, not individual towns. Please be sure we have the correct phone number, so that you will receive all notifications.
