HEALTHY HIGHLIGHTS

The following is directly quoted from information from the National Association of School Nurses:

School nurses lead health promotion and disease prevention in schools. School nurses can decrease fears and promote prevention of COVID-19, the flu, and other illnesses. School nurses can continue to be proactive by advising students, families, and staff to:

Stay home when you are sick. If possible, stay home from work, school, and errands when you are sick. You will help prevent others from catching your illness.

Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth. Germs spread this way.

Cover coughs and sneezes. Use a tissue to cover coughs and sneezes, then dispose of the tissue. When a tissue is not available, cough or sneeze into your elbow.

Clean and disinfect surfaces or objects. Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces at home, work or school, especially when someone is ill.

Wash hands for 20 seconds. Washing hands often under clean, running water can help prevent the spread of germs.

We will be celebrating Read Across America next week! We’ll begin Monday by welcoming Community Readers into our K-5 classrooms. All week there will be door decorating, book trivia and giveaways, special read alouds, and on Friday a Dr. Seuss celebration for grades K-2 that our 5th graders are organizing. NEW THIS YEAR: Dress as your favorite book character! On Wednesday, March 4, we encourage students to dress up as a character from a beloved book!

MEA TESTING BEGINS

As you may have heard, we will soon begin our Maine Educational Assessments (MEA’s) with our 3rd through 8th grade students. These are tests that are designed to assess the content, and the concepts, and skills embedded in the Maine Learning Results. Our goal as a school is to provide our students with an opportunity to be successful. Please join us in that effort by making sure all of our students are well rested, have had a good breakfast and are not worried about the test when they come to school. The MEA testing window will be 3/16 through 4/10. Be on the lookout for additional information about which grades will be testing when!

If you have any questions about this process, please do not hesitate to contact us.

NOTE FROM MR. LIBBY

The Bath Water District is beginning a construction project to upgrade and add onto the treatment plant behind the Woolwich School.  T-Buck construction was awarded the contract and will be mobilizing in the coming weeks. The first phase of construction will be earth work for the new building addition and that means dump truck traffic in and out of the plant.  “No Parking” signs will be installed along the travel corridor to keep the lane clear. Parking spots will not be removed but the goal is to stop people who are parking in the travel lane along the playground, rather than in designated areas.  Please help us keep this roadway clear of all traffic during drop off and pick up times. Thank you in advance for your cooperation. ~Mr. Libby
