The 5th graders at Woolwich Central School spent a great day in Portland, at GMRI (Gulf of Maine Research Institute) today. Not only did the class represent our community beautifully, they were able to have a hands-on learning experience off campus. Students explored scientific research in an interactive manner, while learning from actual scientists. They were challenged to identify plankton and other small creatures using microscopes, as well as to virtually dissect black sea bass. They even handled live lobsters! We are grateful to so many local businesses that sponsor GMRI's LabVenture, which is how we were able to have this experience.
