On Thursday, May 7, the BMS sixth-grade class hosted a Military Appreciation Breakfast at the American Legion Hall as part of their “Remember Me” project. This initiative is inspired by the mission of Wreaths Across America—to remember the fallen, honor those who serve, and teach the next generation about the sacrifices made by members of the military.
In recognition of the upcoming Memorial Day holiday, students researched a fallen service member from a U.S. conflict and created a slideshow presentation highlighting their life and service. These presentations were shared with attendees during the breakfast.
During the event, students also had the opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations with both retired veterans and active-duty service members, learning firsthand about their experiences. Students recorded notes from these discussions, which will be used to compose biographies of local heroes. These biographies will be presented at the school’s Celebration of Learning on June 5.
