A NOTE FROM MR. LIBBY

Greetings Wildcat Families! As our 6th week of school comes to a close, I wanted to send you all a quick note to thank you for your continued efforts at home.  I realize that this school year is unlike any other and many of you have been placed in the difficult position of being a parent, employee and teacher.  Our staff at WCS miss your kids being with us everyday.  I want to reassure you that we are working diligently to make this a reality.  Dr. Manuel and I meet twice a week to discuss our challenges and figure out how to meet the safety guidelines that are needed to bring all of our K-5 kids back.  We live in an unpredictable world right now where timelines are irrelevant.  However, we are making progress.  I am honored to be the Principal of Woolwich Central School and it is a privilege to be part of a community who values education and works collaboratively to do what is best for kids.

Stay safe and stay strong,

Mr. Libby

CHANGE IN PICTURE DAY

Please note the change in our Picture Day dates. For all students, school picture day will be Thursday November 5th and Friday November 6th on your respective in person day. This year we will be utilizing the electronic check-in system. This eliminates the need for any student data paperwork to be exchanged at the camera on picture day, and is another step we will take to make sure we keep all our students and staff safe!  Please stay tuned for more information on how to access this online system as we get closer to picture day. Be on the lookout for email notifications from Lifetouch.

BUS DRIVER APPRECIATION DAY

Wednesday October 21st is Bus Driver Appreciation Day! Since that is not a day we attend school, make sure you thank your bus driver’s and show your appreciation for them all week. Write them a note, bring them a flower, or just say a friendly “thank you” with a smile!

HEALTHY HIGHLIGHTS

Nut Free/Nut Safe School...what does that mean?  It means we want all of the students at WCS to be safe and able to enjoy a learning environment without having to worry about a severe allergic reaction.  However, we are not the food police. We do NOT monitor everyone’s snacks or lunches.  We have sent letters home with every student in lower grades to inform parents that there is a student in the class with a nut/egg type allergy and to remind them not send food with these items in them.  It is important to note that sometimes it is enough to just have the food item present (still in the wrapper, not opened) to cause an allergic reaction. I want each of us to think, “if it was my child that had this allergy, how would I want  other parents to respond?”  If you have questions, please contact the nurse. I will be soon sending home information about flu shots. Please watch for this and remember this is the perfect time to get your flu shot.  ~ Roberta Sherwood, RnBSNMed

PE NEWS FROM MR. HUTCHINGS

Hello Wildcat Families!  It’s been a different start, but an awesome one in PE class.  We have been outside everyday working on cardiovascular endurance with all grade levels.  Not only do the students need it, but it’s been an excellent way to give them a mask break.  Students are improving and it shows by the amount of charms I have given out to them.  With me seeing them less than normal in the hybrid model, please get your kids outdoors to have them show you their running as they really are excited about it!  Also, we are also off and running with our intramural soccer program.  We have 33 total kids participating which is a great number!  The kids are working hard and seem to be happy to have an after school activity that keeps them active!  Thank you all for your continued support and if you have any questions please reach out to me!

SCHOOL FOOD SERVICE REMINDER

On September 1, 2020 the USDA announced that they will be extending the waiver for the Summer Meals Program through December 31, 2020 (as funding allows). RSU1 has decided to opt into this program. What this means for students of the District is that School Meals will be offered for NO CHARGE through 12/31/2020, or until the funds run out. This program is offered to EVERYONE and will help our schools continue to receive funding for the food service program in the future!

During the month of September, we had an average of 41 students per day participate in this program for breakfast, and 72 students per day participate in lunch! If you have been wondering how great school breakfast and lunch can be, now is the chance to start trying some of the amazing things our wonderful Cafeteria workers have been offering. Bosco sticks, chicken nuggets, and homemade mac & cheese to name a few! You will not be disappointed!

If you have questions about this Program, please contact: Tim Harkins, Food Service Director RSU1 (207) 443 6601 ex.114 or email: tharkins@rsu1.org
