Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year! I hope you enjoyed the wonderful summer weather we experienced, and had the opportunity to spend time with family and friends. As we embark on another school year, I encourage you to be part of our RSU 1 community and hope that you become involved in our schools and events.
I am thrilled that we will be launching a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) Academy at Morse and introducing a technology integrator position for grades 6-12. Also, the following services will be expanded in 2016-2017:
· Nursing in our elementary schools
· Middle-level foreign language
· Behavior Support at the elementary level
Staff members participated in professional development this summer that included coursework, workshops, and professional reading. The district held technology training for interested staff members and our Proficiency Based Learning leadership team met for two days recently. We are fortunate to have a staff that is passionate about their craft, and that strives to improve their practice.
The RSU continues to make progress with a site for a new Morse High School. If all goes as planned, we hope to have a public meeting this fall for community members to weigh in on the new site. After the site is determined, our architectural firm will begin concept design. Please feel free to volunteer on one of our many committees by calling Rob Morris at 443-6601.
The communities of RSU 1 are committed to supporting effective schools that are a source of pride for students, parents, and community members. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our parent groups, athletic boosters, community organizations, and volunteers whose efforts enhance the educational opportunities offered to our students. As always, please feel free to contact me with your ideas or concerns. We look forward to seeing K-9 students on September 1st and all students on September 2nd.
