Superintendent Quarterly Newsletter
Dear Parents, Guardians, and Community Members,
We recently returned to school for the 2015-2016 school year. Thirty new staff members joined the district including several administrators. Justin Keleher has replaced Sharon Brown as our Special Services Director, Jennifer Vose assumed the principalship at Dike-Newell, and Brandon Ward has taken over the reins at Bath Middle School. We are excited to have these new staff join our district.
Professional development in 2015-2016 will primarily be focused on the following topics:
Elementary School Grade Configuration – Bath Schools
The RSU1 Board of Directors developed a specific goal this year to research this topic in the Bath Schools (Dike-Newell and Fisher-Mitchell) and decide which configuration is best for our students. The district will be conducting research and collecting input from staff, parents, and the community before making any recommendations. If you would like to complete the questionnaire on this topic, please click the link below before December 18th.
School Renovation Bond
In 2014, RSU1 voters approved a $5.2 million school renovation bond. This bond has allowed us to do some important work to improve the learning environment for students, upgrade security and technology, and reduce energy consumption. The district has only spent $3.7 million of the $5.2 million bond because the state supported Morse High School Building Project was approved earlier than anticipated. Our architectural firm recommended that we not do two projects (replacing steam side supply and domestic hot water) at Morse due to the timing of our high school project. Thank you for your support of this much needed work.
Morse High School Building Project
Lavallee-Brensinger Architects conducted an analysis of the existing Morse building and site. In addition, they have explored sites for a new facility. After numerous meetings and analyzing information, the Board of Directors voted to support the construction of a new Morse High School. Potential sites for a new school have been narrowed down to two – Wing Farm area and land adjacent to Bath Middle School. Once a site recommendation is finalized, it will require a straw poll vote.
If you would still like to be a part of the process, it is not too late. You can sign up for certain subcommittees by contacting Rob Morris at 443-6601. We appreciate all of the community members who have either volunteered on committees or attended the community forums.
