RSU1 Reapportionment and Changes to Board of Director Elections

RSU1 Reapportionment and Changes to Board of Director Elections

A Reapportionment Plan of RSU1 as submitted by our Reapportionment Committee was approved by the Maine Department of Education on June 30th.  How we elect our Board of Directors and who they represent has changed.

Beginning with the November 3rd 2015 election, all directors shall be elected at large by ALL of the voters of RSU1.  Previously we had districts that split the towns and city into 7 districts…these districts no longer exist.  There will still be 7 Board member positions, 4 of which will be filled by a person with a voting residence in each of the four RSU1 municipalities.  These 4 are known as “municipal-residence” positions.  The remaining 3 positions will be filled by a person with a voting residency in any of the member municipalities, known as "unrestricted-residence” positions.  Remember, though there is now a municipal-residence position for Arrowsic, Bath, Phippsburg and Woolwich, all RSU1 voters will vote when those positions are up for election, as well as the unrestricted-residence positions.  This change causes all municipalities to have an RSU1 Board of Director election every year...everyone votes every time.

Nomination papers for two upcoming unrestricted-residence positions will be available beginning August 7th from the RSU1 Central Office.  The election will be held on Tuesday, November 3, 2015 at all municipal polling places within RSU1.  FMI call us at 443-6601.
