Engineering & Architectural Design students visit Hathorn Block

The Engineering and Archictectural Design students had a field trip to the Hathorn Block in Richmond. They met with the developer, Les Fossel, who is a specialist in historic preservation and were given a tour by the architect, David Landesman. The building was built around 1850, and is undergoing extensive renovation.

The Exploring Engineering Design class will be doing "live work" with the architect by drafting the original hand drawn plans into Autocad, and also building a 3D digital model of the building to show an animated "walk-through" of the proposed interior renovations. Along the way, they will be learning about historic preservation and adaptive reuse of historic structures.
